Sparks Set for Junior Nationals
Albany, New York - Total domination.... that’s what the Saratoga Sparks brought to the Albany Keys to the City Tournament this past weekend as they visited the SEFCU Arena on the campus of the University of Albany.
The Sparks, fresh off an eye opening experience in the Gym Rat Challenge, faced four local AAU clubs hoping to show that they were clearly one of the best teams in the Capital District.
It was clear from the start that the Sparks have become a solid team from top to bottom and that their experience playing in quality tournaments was starting to pay dividends.
“I’m pretty proud of the way the kids are playing right now, we have played a very challenging schedule and have taken our lumps every now and then, but we have grown as a team and we now realize that we can play with just about anyone” shared coach Csakany during a phone interview.
The club also collected a few new faces to help them through their post-season trip to Penn State. Katie “Big Ticket” Cocca was activated from the disabled list and has quickly gotten into mid-season form. The 6’-0” Niskayuna center is sure to give the Sparks a presence in the paint.
The Sparks front office also made a couple of roster moves. The club dipped into their minor league system. Both Megan “Jolly” Rogers and Allison “Black Cloud” Setter were called up from triple A to help bolster an already solid core. The two Shenendehowa freshmen have proven track records around the glass and should help balance the Sparks front-court.
